APPLICATION & ADMISSION PROCESS
STEP ONE (Optional): Interested students and parents are invited to contact OIEC (email) to communicate their interest in learning more about OIEC and direct any questions they may have. Your email will be answered promptly.
STEP TWO: Students, parents and/or agents are asked to complete the “Statement of Interest Form” providing their contact information, program of study, choice of school system and other background information. You will hear back from OIEC after your Statement of Interest Form has been reviewed. Communication will continue to clarify the student’s needs, expectations and goals to ensure a placement is most appropriate for the learner before any payment is required.
STEP THREE: OIEC will forward the application form to be completed. OIEC will also be asking for letters of recommendation, school reports and health/immunization information. All necessary forms will be sent by OIEC. Upon completion, return the application package to OIEC with a non refundable deposit of $300 CDN.
STEP FOUR: OIEC will review the application and work with the desired school district to find the best possible placement. Upon acceptance, OIEC will forward a Homestay Application Form, Parental Consent and Custodianship Form and a Homestay Consent and Release Form. OIEC will begin to screen homestay placements to match the students request and will coordinate medical insurance for the duration of the student’s stay. All documents are to be returned with payment of $20 000 CDN. (Deadline May 31 for September entry—late applications will be considered if space permits.)
If the application for a study permit is denied, the amount of $19400 will be returned upon proof of refusal from Canadian Immigration. (The non refundable fees of $600 are required for homestay registration and custodianship registration).
STEP FIVE: Upon receipt of $20 000 the student will receive an official letter of acceptance from the school district and a notarized Declaration of Custodianship. These forms along with proof of financial support, a valid passport and medical information will be required to obtain a study permit through Citizenship and Immigration Canada (http://www.cic.gc.ca/). Parents will need to contact their nearest Canadian Embassy, Consulate or High Commission.
STEP SIX: Prepare for travel arriving August 23-30. OIEC will set up communication between the homestay family and the student. OIEC will begin to review course selection. A Director of OIEC is committed to meeting the student at the airport upon arrival and communicating with the family. Final payment of $5700 CDN is required within 15 days after classes begin.
